You've been going there for years. It is the sweetest spot to camp. The road is just rocky enough to keep out tourists with their orange-painted SUVs covered in foam boards on soft racks. The bluff is over the beach, you can still find firewood near your tent, and there is no toilet-paper blowing around in the bushes. The surf is epic with any kind of swell. If you actually see anyone else, their campsite is far enough away for good neighbors. Nobody cuts each other off.

Or, your spot is just off the road down an unmarked track. It's nestled among some boulders and Cardón cactus that don't have someone's initials carved on them. You can see every star because there is no electricity for miles and miles. The evening desert breeze mixes with the smell from your grill.

You know that those two green glowing dots fifty yards out belong to a coyote planning to inspect your camp after you go to sleep.

Do you trust anyone to keep your spot as nice as you do? Maybe. And if you do, make sure you don't regret telling them where it is.

Lead only the trusted to your secret spots.
